Beacon Lighthouse

Beacon Lighthouse

Read to Players

The stairs are cut directly into the stone of the bluff — wide enough for two, worn smooth at the edges from years of use. As you climb, the lighthouse rises above you, white stone against a heavy sky, its great lamp burning orange and yellow at the top, pushing its light out over the bay to hold back the fog that rolls in off the Valpin. Another wave strikes the rocks below and sends a cold white mist up and over you — over the stairs, over the railing, over the lighthouse itself. You feel it on your face before you see it. Near the top, the stairs level onto a stone landing and the door comes into full view. Dark wood, thick and old, fitted with silver hinges and a silver handle that catch the light. Carved into the face of the door, set into a shield, is the emblem of the lighthouse — a single flame over open water. The light above you turns slowly. The fog doesn't stand a chance.

DM Notes

The Beacon Lighthouse is one of the oldest structures on Braver's Bowl, predating much of the city below it. It was built before Beacon was Beacon — when this bluff was just a promontory with a fire on top and fishermen who needed to find home. The current structure has been rebuilt twice. The light mechanism at the top is maintained by a single keeper who lives inside and rarely comes down.

•  The lighthouse keeper is a character you can develop however you choose — a recluse, a former sailor, someone hiding from something, or simply an old person who loves the light and the solitude. They are not built out yet on this site.
