“As you approach the bakery, you can't help but feel warmed and a little excited. The building is a permanent wooden structure, but the wood has been painted in pastel pinks and blues. A garland drapes between hooks along the front counter — not greenery, but a string of pastries. The two front support beams each hold a lantern shaped like a cupcake, the domed top frosted white like icing, the round glass pane below glowing warm yellow and orange. Above the counter, mounted to the fascia, a large decorative donut serves as a sign, a lantern hung through its hole — and written across the top in letters that follow the curve of the ring: Saltwater Loaves. An A-frame chalkboard sits off to the right of the entrance that reads: "Our Saltwater Taffy Is Guaranteed To Make You Smile." Behind the front counter, four glass-faced display cases line the back wall, lit from inside, packed with pastries, cakes, and things glazed in colors that catch your eye from across the boardwalk. On the front counter, a round wooden wash bucket holds a tall mound of saltwater taffy in every color.”
